AWCI BaSE: Business and Social Exchange

The aim of the AWCI BaSE initiative is to recognise and support the contribution made by women in the wall and ceiling industry, identify resources to enhance personal development and acumen, and provide an ongoing network for women in the industry.

Launch of AWCI BaSE

AWCI ANZ was proud to launch the AWCI Women's Chapter on Tuesday 13 Oct in a special business forum hosted by communication expert Karen Phillips, who also chairs a local and online women's empowerment and business community. The aim of this initiative is to recognise and support the contribution made by women in the wall and ceiling industry, identify resources that enhances personal development and business acumen, and provide an ongoing network for women in the industry.

Karen drew out a number of fantastic topics on the discussions, including changes to state regulations on safety requirements, Work Cover and public liability claims, managing salaries and sub-contractors, and opened up the conversation to the tables. The partners attending the event left with glowing remarks on the quality of discussions, ideas shared and relationships built in this inaugural meeting. AWCI will be working to grow this initiative based on the suggestions made, including the development of an online discussion forum, webinars and information targeted directly to partners, and assisting groups to host meetings in their own states to continue the conversation into the next twelve months. After collecting suggestions for the naming of this initiative, the group has decided on BaSE: Business and Social Exchange.

We thank everyone who has attended this event, and if there's any further feedback or suggestions please don't hesitate to send it through us at marketing@awci.org.au.

Who should get involved with BaSE?

BaSE aims to connect persons in the wall and ceiling industry who are actively engaged in the managerial and administrative side of the business. Connect with people from around Australia to share experiences and solutions, get access to resources curated by participants and access the AWCI Members Area technical directory and forums at any time.

"The forum was excellent. It has huge potential in information sharing and business development strategies, as well as providing a support network for women in the industry." Jill Newman, Office Manager - Newstruct

"I feel this is something that I personally benefitted from. I am the only office person for our Plastering company and don't get to meet other ladies in a similar situation. I am very excited to see what the women's chapter will provide." Amanda Masterson, Administrator - DNA Drywall Plastering
